Research summary
Dr. Pickering’s research focuses on high consequence emerging and re-emerging zoonotic pathogens of veterinary importance. Henipaviruses, Ebolaviruses, bunyaviruses and emerging zoonotic coronaviruses are the primary agents under investigation. Dr. Pickering’s work aims to better understand viral pathogenesis and host-microbe interactions for improved human and animal health.
Biography
Dr. Pickering is a research scientist with the Canadian Food Inspection Agencies National Centre for Foreign Animal Disease located at the Canadian Science Centre for Human and Animal Health. He is cross appointed in the department of microbiology and Infectious diseases at the University of Manitoba and the department of Veterinary Microbiology & Preventive Medicine at Iowa State University.
