Clinical microbiology methods
BiographyJames Karlowsky is the Provincial Medical Director, Clinical Microbiology for Diagnostic Services/Shared Health Manitoba. He is Volume Editor for the 13th Edition of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) textbook, Manual of Clinical Microbiology, and currently serves on the Editorial Boards of the ASM journals, Clinical Microbiology Reviews and Journal of Clinical Microbiology, as well as on the Editorial Board of the journal Diagnostic Microbiology and Infectious Diseases. Dr. Karlowsky served as the Director of the University of Manitoba’s nationally-accredited Clinical Microbiology Fellowship Training Program for 10 years, from 2007 to 2016. His background also includes Scientific Director and Director of Laboratory Services positions with a large U.S. national reference clinical microbiology laboratory. Dr. Karlowsky is actively involved in research as part of the Canadian Antimicrobial Resistance Alliance (CARA) group, which is led by Dr. George Zhanel. Dr. Karlowsky has published >300 peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts and has presented >500 abstracts at national and international scientific conferences.
