Research summary
My research interests focus primarily on clinical pediatric infectious diseases issues, since <10% of my overall time is dedicated toward formal research activities. My recent areas of focus have been in the area of the practical implementation of antimicrobial stewardship initiatives targeting the pediatric inpatient and outpatient populations. This includes being co-investigator on a funded deliverable through the MCHP, establishing baseline statistics on outpatient antibiotic use in Manitoba.
I am part of working group with PIDS looking at current levels of telemedicine use by pediatric ID clinicians in the USA and Canada. I have also published several papers outlining the presentation and management of pediatric blastomycosis in Manitoba.
Biography
I came to Manitoba in 2003 for residency and joined the Section of Pediatric ID as a faculty member in 2010. I have been the Pediatric ID subspecialty residency training program director since 2011, during which time we have had an extremely successful group of trainees, who have all gone on to be leaders in infectious diseases fields in Canada. I am also the Course Director for the year 1 medical student Infectious Diseases and Therapeutics Block (IDT) at the University of Manitoba. My interests include medical education, antimicrobial stewardship, telemedicine in ID, and blastomycosis.
