Research summary
Dr. Maryanne Crockett is a pediatric infectious diseases clinician and global public health researcher focusing on maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH) and infectious diseases. Her focus is on improving access, quality and equity in MNCH services to enhance health outcomes particularly among newborns and young children. Dr. Crockett is the Director of Research and Knowledge Translation at the University of Manitoba Institute for Global Public Health.
Biography
Dr. Maryanne Crockett is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Child Health, Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases and Community Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba. She was the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Residency Program Director from 2008-2011 and the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Section Head from 2011-2020.Dr. Crockett has worked in clinical and public health programs in Guyana, Kenya, India and Pakistan. She co-led a Global Affairs Canada funded program in Taita Taveta County, Kenya to improve equity and outcomes in maternal, newborn and child health, nutrition and food security. Dr. Crockett was the principal investigator for a child health project working with the Government of Uttar Pradesh, India to improve child health outcomes with a focus on quality of care in facilities and at the community level. She has also been the University of Manitoba newborn and child health lead on global MNCH program and evaluation projects in Karnataka, India and in Pakistan. Dr. Crockett continues to lead global child health activities and is the Director of Research and Knowledge Translation at the University of Manitoba Institute for Global Public Health. She was included on the inaugural list of Canadian Women in Global Health in 2018 and was awarded the Dr. Jack Armstrong Humanitarian Award in 2021 for her work in global child health.
